Illumination awards commissioned by the Friends of Eastern Foundation mark the beginning of a new series of small sculptures.

  The Friends of Eastern Foundation commissioned Ken Leap to design a limited edition of sculptures for three new Foundation Awards: Business of the Year, Philanthropist of the Year, and Volunteer of the Year. Illumination symbolizes the valuable contributions that the award recipients make towards Eastern New Mexico University and its students. A new award will be commissioned each year.

ENMU Honors Philanthropist of the Year

Addie Swearingen was honored as the Philanthropist of the Year at the 27th Annual Friends of Eastern Foundation Breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 19, in the Campus Union Ballroom at Eastern New Mexico University.

In 1909, Mrs. Swearingen moved with her parents, Oscar and Mary Peed, to the Elida community. She attended several rural schools and completed her high school education in Elida.

 

ENMU Recognizes Local Bank as Business of the Year

The Friends of Eastern Foundation has recognized the Portales National Bank as its first annual Business of the Year recipient. The award was presented at the Friends of Eastern Foundation 27th Annual Breakfast in the Ballroom at Eastern New Mexico University on Saturday, Oct. 19. Accepting the award was bank president David Stone.

Originally chartered in Elida in the New Mexico territory, Portales National Bank is the oldest family-owned bank in New Mexico.

 

ENMU Names Local Dentist Volunteer of the Year

Dr. Buck Wilson, a Portales dentist, has been named the recipient of the first annual Volunteer of the Year award from the Friends of Eastern Foundation at Eastern New Mexico University. He received the award at the 27th Annual Friends of Eastern Foundation Breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 19, in the in the Campus Union Ballroom.
